Description
Proctosedyl Ointment is designed to provide relief from the discomfort associated with haemorrhoids and other painful anal conditions. This topical medication is formulated to reduce swelling, numb pain, and alleviate itching in the rectal and anal areas, offering soothing relief for conditions such as anal fissures, pruritus, and non-infective proctitis.
Active Ingredients
- Hydrocortisone (5 mg per gram): Acts as a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and antipruritic properties.
- Cinchocaine Hydrochloride (5 mg per gram): Serves as a local anaesthetic to relieve pain and spasm.
Inactive Ingredients
- Liquid paraffin
- White soft paraffin
- Wool fat (lanolin)
This formulation is free from gluten, sucrose, lactose, tartrazine, and other azo dyes.
Physical Characteristics
The ointment is odourless, yellowish-white, and translucent with a greasy texture. It is available in 15 g and 30 g tubes, each equipped with a plastic nozzle for convenient internal application.
Application Instructions
For external use, a small amount should be applied to the affected area with a clean finger. For internal use, the supplied nozzle can be gently inserted into the rectum. The typical dosage is up to three times daily, preferably after bowel movements, unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional. Continuous use should not exceed 7 days without medical advice.
