Description

The Avelle™ Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) Pump by ConvaTec is an innovative medical device designed to enhance wound healing through advanced technology. This compact, portable, and disposable pump applies controlled negative pressure to the wound site, effectively managing exudate and maintaining a moist environment conducive to healing.

Key Features

  • Hydrofiber® Technology: The system integrates with proprietary Hydrofiber® Technology, which gels on contact with wound fluid, locking in exudate and bacteria while minimizing lateral fluid spread. This canister-less design simplifies exudate management, as no external canister is required.

  • Consistent Pressure Delivery: The pump delivers a nominal -80 mmHg (±20 mmHg) negative pressure consistently across the wound contact layer, even when fully hydrated. This ensures optimal conditions for wound healing.

  • Battery Operated: Powered by 3V (2 x AAA) alkaline batteries, the device offers quiet operation with minimal noise and vibration, enhancing patient comfort. Simple one-button control and indicator lights provide easy operation and status monitoring.

Dressing Features

  • Showerproof Design: The dressings allow patients to disconnect the pump and shower while maintaining negative pressure for up to 60 minutes. The silicone adhesive border ensures secure placement, while the foam and film layers distribute pressure evenly and act as a bacterial and viral barrier.

  • Evaporation and Protection: The film layer allows exudate evaporation and provides a showerproof barrier. The apertured design facilitates effective negative pressure transmission to the wound.

Intended Use

The Avelle™ NPWT Pump is suitable for managing various hard-to-heal wounds, including:

  • Acute and traumatic wounds
  • Surgically closed incisions
  • Flaps and grafts
  • Chronic wounds such as pressure ulcers and diabetic ulcers

It is ideal for use in hospital, clinic, or homecare settings and is compatible with compression therapy.

Contraindications

The device should not be used with:

  • Wounds with unexplored fistulas
  • Malignant tissue
  • Exposed blood vessels or organs
  • Necrotic tissue with eschar

Maintenance and Safety

Dressings typically have a wear time of 3–4 days, up to a maximum of 7 days. They should not be cut, and the port must be positioned over intact skin. Both the pump and dressings are single-use and should not be reused or sterilized. Cleaning of the pump exterior should be done with a damp cloth only.
