Description

AQUACEL EXTRA DRESSING by ConvaTec is an advanced solution for managing a variety of acute and chronic wounds, particularly those with moderate to high exudate levels. This innovative dressing employs Hydrofiber® Technology, crafted from sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) fibers, to provide exceptional wound care.

Key Features

  • High Absorbency: The dressing transforms into a cohesive gel upon contact with wound exudate, maintaining a moist environment that supports healing while minimizing leakage and maceration.
  • Enhanced Strength: With 39% more absorbency and significantly greater wet tensile strength compared to standard AQUACEL dressings, it ensures easy removal and effective management of high-exudate wounds.
  • Micro-Contouring: Conforms closely to the wound bed, reducing bacterial proliferation and promoting a cleaner wound environment.

Benefits

  • Vertical Wicking: Protects peri-wound skin by drawing fluid away from the wound bed, minimizing lateral wicking.
  • Autolytic Debridement: Encourages the natural removal of non-viable tissue, resulting in a cleaner wound bed.
  • Comfortable Use: Soft and malleable, the dressing can be cut to size, reducing pain during changes and preventing adherence to the wound bed.

Versatility

Suitable for both shallow and cavity wounds, AQUACEL EXTRA DRESSING can be layered for high exudate wounds and pre-moistened for dry wounds. It offers extended wear time, remaining in place for up to 7 days based on clinical needs, and can be used alongside secondary dressings like AQUACEL Foam for enhanced management.

Bioburden Management

The dressing passively manages bioburden, reducing infection risks by immobilizing bacteria and sequestering matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). It is latex-free, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of patients.

Indications

Ideal for use with:

  • Leg ulcers
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Surgical wounds
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Partial thickness burns

Contraindications

Not recommended for individuals with known sensitivity to sodium carboxymethylcellulose or related components. For those sensitive to silver, AQUACEL Ag+ variants should be avoided.

Application Guidelines

  • Shallow Wounds: Overlap the dressing onto surrounding skin.
  • Cavity Wounds: Use ribbon dressing with appropriate packing.
  • Dry Wounds: Pre-moisten with sterile saline.

A suitable secondary dressing is required to secure it in place. The dressing should be removed when saturated or as clinically indicated.

Safety and Handling

AQUACEL EXTRA DRESSING is single-use, MRI safe, and should be stored at room temperature. Available in various sizes, it provides tailored solutions for diverse wound care needs. Always refer to the pack insert for comprehensive instructions.
